About Us

St. Anthony’s Knanaya Catholic Proposed Mission, Wales, was established on 9th December 2018 and inaugurated by Rev. Fr. Saji Malayilputhenpurayil. Since its founding, the mission has remained committed to fostering the spiritual growth, cultural identity, and unity of the Knanaya Catholic faithful across South Wales, including Cardiff, Newport, Swansea, Camarthen, Brynmawr, and Barry.

Guided by dedicated pastoral leadership, our community has continued to grow in both faith and participation. The mission was first led by Rev. Fr. Saji Malayilputhenpurayil, followed by Rev. Fr. Ajoob Thottananiyil, who served from February 2024 to August 2025, during which time the mission witnessed remarkable development in its liturgical and community life. From September 2025 onwards, Rev. Fr. Jibin Paradiyil is serving as the priest in charge, continuing to nurture the spiritual journey of our faithful.

In the early years, Holy Mass was celebrated twice monthly in Cardiff—on the second and fourth Sundays—followed by Catechism for children. As the community expanded, the sacramental schedule also grew. Today, the mission is blessed to celebrate four Holy Masses every month in Cardiff and one Holy Mass in Swansea. Catechism classes are held with every Sunday Mass, ensuring the faith is preserved and strengthened among our younger generation.

Now home to over 150 Knanaya Catholic families, St. Anthony’s Knanaya Catholic Proposed Mission stands as a vibrant and united community founded on faith, love, and tradition. In the early stages of the mission, many devoted members generously contributed their time and effort to build the foundation we cherish today. We gratefully remember and appreciate the contributions of the former trustees — Benny Philip, Thomas Uthupukutty and Thankchan Jacob and the former pastoral council member Binu Kuriakose. The mission is currently served by a committed leadership team:
Trustees: James Joseph & Alex Philip
Accountant: Biju Joseph
Alongside liturgical celebrations, our mission actively encourages prayer and fellowship. We currently have seven Koodarayogams (prayer groups) that gather regularly within their respective local areas. Additionally, the Legion of Mary – Queen of Angels Presidium for women conducts prayer meetings every Sunday, contributing greatly to the mission’s spiritual enrichment.

Key events organized by the Mission include a 10-day rosary, the Catechism Annual Day, All Saints’ Day, Christmas Nativity, Father’s Day and Mother’s Day celebrations, Family Fun Day, Pilgrimage, Mission Sports Day and Vanakkamasam. Every year on June 13th, we joyfully celebrate the Feast of our Patron, St. Anthony of Padua, with great devotion and community involvement—highlighting the deep faith that binds us together.

With unwavering dedication and unity, our faithful continue working toward the goal of receiving full canonical status as a Mission. Through prayer, cooperation, and perseverance, we strive to build a strong spiritual home for the present community and future generations to come.
