Valentine’s day is celebrated all over the world with flowers and chocolates as a symbol of love. In St Mary’s Sunday school- Manchester, the students were encouraged to think of the Catholic view of Valentine’s day. The history of Valentine’s day through St Valentine and how he risked his life to help people in love with the sacrament of marriage was explained to students. Apart from that, the students were inspired to think about a love that beats all other love in this world- Jesus’ love and students were motivated to discuss why Jesus love is better than all other love during the Catechism class on Sunday- 15th February.
After Catechism class, during the Mass students offered a massive poster with the words ‘JESUS’ LOVE BEATS ALL OTHER LOVE’ at the start of the Mass and at the end of the Mass Alvina Denny of year 11 gave a heartening speech about the true love of Jesus that is invaluable in comparison with all other love. Through this session on Valentine’s day, the students were made to reflect the Catholic perspective of Valentine’s day apart from the Valentine’s day celebration the youngsters see around them and a session like this is crucial in the times we now live.
